Program
“How can we best comment on issues relating to Bollywood?” we asked ourselves as we organized the fourth year of the Prague Bollywood Festival. There was, we decided, no better way than to allow the films and their makers speak for themselves. Unlike other years, when we focused explicitly on acquainting Czech audiences with India’s prolific commercial film industry, this year’s festival takes a more critical look at current trends in Mumbai (Bombay) and how these are in turn affecting the ways in which Bollywood is perceived within South Asia and abroad. Films selected for this year’s festival both extol and critique current trends within the industry. Our guests are all filmmakers that engage with Bollywood: Subhash Ghai is a Bombay film industry mogul, Nabin Subba advocates an entity for Nepali film under Bollywood’s shadow, and Canada based Kaspar Saxena brings to bear the ways in which Bollywood influenced Indian diasporic filmmakers. The guests will each present their own work and will also dialogue with each other in open panels during the festival.
Festival will take place at cinema Aero and Světozor from 9. till 15. 10. 2006.
All films are with English subtitles.
